Clinical Supervision

Role as a supervisor

My role as your supervisor is to develop an environment that promotes clinical learning and professional development respondent to the agree upon goals of the supervisee, while adhering to the AAMFT Code of Ethics and ensuring quality client care and safety are upheld. The content of supervision will focus on the acquisition of knowledge, conceptualization, and skills of the trainee within the defined scope of practice of the supervisor.

Furthermore, the self-of-the-therapist will be thoughtfully explored to maintain respect to this identified relationship.

The goals of supervision include

  1. Help develop trainee’s clinical lens to constructively interrupt multiple systems (and persons) that have become stuck in six metaframework domains by way of recursive relationships and model conceptualization

  2. To develop trainee from a neophyte to an increasingly competent therapist through professional identity and competence

  3. To monitor and gatekeep all legal and ethical impasses that may arise I will function as a coach, teacher, evaluator, mentor and administer of your work.

During our exploration call, we will also discuss specific goals that you have for your clinical development and ensure there is mutual clinical fit.

Clinical philosophy and clinical approach to supervision

  • My work with you will be focused on ensuring you (the trainee) are maintaining a systemic orientation in your work with your clients, our work together and additional interconnectedness of the human system experience (individually, collectively, socially, globally) while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.

  • My “home” theoretical orientation is postmodern (Narrative and Solution focused) with strong considerations for attachment and emotion emphasis though am skillful in a number of other family systems models.

  • I also value, understand and work towards and with cultural considerations both for the trainee and their clients. I recognize the importance of isomorphic processing and power dynamics between trainees and clients and trainees and myself.
